What is it that is pulling at your heartstrings today? Ask yourself is it from God and is it of God. There are so many situations that we encounter in life that pull and tug on us but we have to make sure that the things that are motivating and moving us in life are from and of God. We can easily be pulled in the wrong direction if we are not rooted and grounded in what we say we believe.
Understand, not only does God's Word need to planted in our hearts, we need to be planted in God's Word. We need to be rooted and grounded in the Word and the Word needs to be rooted and grounded in us. When something is rooted, it is firmly planted and has taken root. It is fixed in one position and unable to move.
There are several definitions for the word grounded that relate to our walk of faith. One means to be mentally and emotionally stable. Another means to be restricted and confined to home. Being restricted to the things of God and being confined to operating like God wants you to operate is what "holiness" is all about. So being grounded to and with God is not a punishment it is actually a privilege. Another definition of grounded deals with electrical grounding. When an appliance is grounded, it gives a backup pathway that gives an alternative way for the current to flow back to the ground if there is fault in the wiring. So if you are grounded in God, there is always a backup pathway to get you back to God if something goes wrong. That backup pathway is called repentance and forgiveness.
The Bible talks about us being "rooted and grounded" in love. Remember, God is love! So we must be rooted and grounded in Him.
