Do you understand that love is not just an emotion? An emotion is a feeling and it can also be classified as a reaction. Are you loving as a response to what someone says or does. Do you remember ... those relationships where someone said they love you and your immediate response was "I love you to"? Did you even know what you were saying or was it a reaction to what you were told?
Understand today that love is not just a response. God is love. Everything that God is and everything that God does is based on who He is. His nature is love. His attitude is love. His motivation is love. Love doesn't just exist when it's convenient. Love is. It is unmovable, unshakable. It stands up when things get hard. It sacrifices. Are you laying down your wants and your desires for those you say you love? How about for God? You say you love Him ......are you laying down your "self" for Him?
We say we want to reflect who God is. Today we understand that God is love. So when you talk to your husband or wife, your children, your neighbor, your co-workers, your friends, other family members, or even the stranger that you come across today ..... will they hear and see in you who God is? Will your reflection be one of love? When someone upsets you today on the job.....will your response be one of love?
Love is not easy. It's not easy to love someone who is consistently hurting you. Just ask God. We are His children and it hurts Him every time we disobey and disregard what He has told us to do. But He loves us anyway. Be like God and love people through the hurt, through the pain, through the disappointment, and through the shame.
